Technology is taking such rapid strides forward at such a blurring pace that what is considered a marvelous novelty turns into a mundane common object within no time. To classify and bunch a set of man-made marvels from a world that is being...

Wow this is one of the rare write-ups I have ever come across. Sameer you have done a commendable work indeed. Petronas and that Bird’s nest are simply looking outstanding in the pictures. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Hey what an excellent list of the most outstanding man made marvels. ISS is truly out-of-this-world! Fantastic coverage! I’d prefer to linger around in the pool a bit longer :)

Thats a great compilation Sameer. The Viaduc de Millau Bridge and the Three Gorges Dam are simply outstanding because of their sheer size.
And you know if we can go back a bit in time, the Panama Canal sill holds its name as an Engineering marvel. The hardship that they faced while making it and locking system that they eventually made is superb Engineering. Also the railway line to Tibet has some amazing Engineering feats to overcome extreme conditions.
Great list here.

Picking out 20 engineering feats that modern man has achieved is no mean task.

There are so many nominations for it that it would be hard to pick out the best.

Among the greatest marvels ever created, one would have to consider the ate and under what levels of scientific knowledge base was a particular feat achieved.

In such a collection, the Great Wall of China or the Great Pyramid of Egypt, which was built without the wheel would surely find space.

But as modern marvels under advanced levels of knowledge in science and technology, the picks put out by Sameer here deserve appreciation.

There still will be some differences but the ones displayed out here are truly some of the best that man has ever achieved.

Thanks everyone and to be honest I learnt as much as anyone else through that, maybe even more since there were many that did not make the cut. Glad many of you liked it. :)

Manish, the Panama Canal was surely considered and it was more a tale of human will overcoming plenty of obstacles in really deplorable conditions. But we wanted to make it a bit more contemporary than the early 1900’s. That is why neither the Panama Canal nor the hoover Dam were in there. But it is just objective at the end of the day and somebody else’s list could have 20 totally diff things equally spectacular. :)

Ravinder, everything you mention is true and all those works are indeed wonders. But we were clear that this was only about ’Modern’ engineering. So we stuck to the ones that were relevant to the tag.

> (12): Akashi Kaikyo Suspension Bridge (...) The four-mile bridge

As you can guess looking at the picture you have chosen, the bridge is not that long, but ”only” 2,43 miles (3,911km)

But with its central span length of 1991 m (almost 1,24 mile) it is n°1 and worth of being in this list !
(1937’s Golden Gate Bridge central span is 1280 m )

I think you might like to add this bridge between Sweden and Denmark
from Wikipedia
The Oresund Bridge (Danish Øresundsbroen, Swedish Öresundsbron, joint hybrid name Øresundsbron) is a combined two-track rail and four-lane road bridge across the Oresund strait. The bridge-tunnel is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe and connects the two metropolitan areas of the Oresund Region: the Danish capital of Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö. The international European route E20 runs across the bridge and through the tunnel via the two lane motorway, as does the Oresund Railway Line. The bridge is the longest border crossing bridge in the world.[4]
That was all great hi tech stuff.
Nature can be just as amazing.

** TickleMe Plant - It Moves **
A great green low tech low cost gift that will make everyone smile is to grow a TickleMe Plant and watch it MOVE when Tickled! The leaves quickly fold and even the branches droop when tickled. I found this to be a great stress reliever in my office and what a conversation piece!. You may have seen the TickleMe Plant in the botanical gardens.. Now it can be grown indoors year round.
No green thumb needed. I found it on line at http://www.ticklemeplant.com

nice collections around the world. love the looking good of Burj-Al-Arab Hotel design. We can see the fighting about building design around the world is growing. They are really hardworking to get some idea and built it with unique design.
we will wait for another marvels engineering building after this.
I also proud for the engineering success.. good luck to another new born marvels.
